ABOUT_
My works are characterized through a combination of naturalistic and comic-like strokes, mainly using ink on canvas and paper. My direct approach to the drawing is really paramount for my method as I rarely use sketches in my process. I have an idea about what is going to be drawn onto the white surface – but the idea is only immediate and might just cover 1/5 of the canvas/paper. If I was fully aware of the result I wanted in the end, I would lose a great amount of free will, intuition and creativity.
When I am working with my drawings and paintings, new possibilities regularly arise. This is due to the idea of drawing without a beforehand sketched idea. By working this way I feel a strong energy and freedom. It is an exciting task, also because of the chance of unintended actions – some call it errors – happening whilst painting/drawing. It is almost impossible to avoid these actions as I am using materials which really cannot be erased. The real task is to use/integrate the actions in the further work.
My works are rich in details, meaning that they should be experienced close up. By this you will get more into the specific work. You should be able to see the smaller details and make new connections between the objects. I am personally drawn to works of great richness in detail, where you can find new things and relations every time you let your eyes wander the canvas. It is important for me also to generate that quality.
My works tell a lot of stories. Some of them are quite obvious – others are hidden. The works are all rather personal of course, but I have absolutely no intention to limit the spectator to my own story. For me it has already been revealed during the process. I actually prefer to hear the spectators interpreting of the specific work. I don’t believe that the work is finished just because the last ink or paint is dry. The work will always be discussed and further observed in the specific individual’s interpretation. Luckily we are all different and have something thrilling to tell – maybe not through something already experienced, but in a later fantasy or dream.
